A mission worth engaging in. [/x_pullquote]One of the must fun speaking engagements I have participated in, is to be a guest speaker on board the National Geographic Explorer along Iceland’s rugged west coast in 2015 and 2016. What a fabulous way to explore your own country and culture from an ocean view with the benefit of discussing the experience through the guests’ eyes and learn from their extensive travels.
A National Geographic Explorer-In-Residence, a friend and one of the most impressive marine scientists I know Enric Sala, introduced me to Sven Lindblad during dinner in a restaurant in Reykjavik in late 2013. Our conversations and friendship led us to co-think how the Icelandic expedition could be layered with a collection of speakers from different sectors of the Icelandic society. From a list of about 20 speakers, Sven and his fabulous colleague Trey Buys made their choice of speakers and luckily invited me to join. With me were Regina Bjarnadottir, former Head of Research at Arion Bank and current CEO of the Aurora Fund, Silja Bara Omarsdottir, Author and Lecturer at the faculty of Political Science at the University of Iceland and Ragna Arnadottir, former Minister of Justice and Ecclesiastical Affairs/ Minister of Justice and Human Rights and currently the deputy CEO of Landsvirkjun, the National Power Company of Iceland. With his unique charm and leadership, Sven facilitates the discussions every evening, which makes the whole experience more dynamic, personal and relaxed. Along with the Icelandic speakers are wonderful Icelandic musicians and a group of National Geographic nature experts and photographers who make the journey full of inspiration and opportunities to learn.
What I love about the Lindblad Expeditions is the deep respect they have for nature and their collaboration with the National Geographic.
